Volunteers are asked to explore cultural awareness and learn how to understand families and children of all different types. As part of their training, volunteers will observe Family Court, and learn about the local resources to help families and children. Court report writing, visiting with children, and personal safety are also addressed. The classes are very interactive and use a combination of activities, videos, group discussions, and case studies to prepare a volunteer for this important work. Classes meet once or twice per week for three hours per session, for a total of eight sessions. Check with your county for specific times and dates of upcoming trainings.
This course covers the same concepts as the traditional 30-hour training. Fifteen hours of the course are completed online at your convenience. An additional 15 hours of in-person sessions will be meeting with your class to complete case studies and other activities. In-person classes meet once a week for three hours per session, for a total of five weeks. Check with your county for specific times and dates of upcoming trainings.
